Malli Modalaindi 2022 Movie Review, Trailer, Cast, and Watch Online: A refreshing look at life after divorce

A well-thought-out play that could have benefited from some trepidation in writing.

When the male protagonist contemptuously states that he thought he understood women because he was surrounded by them, but realized that love and marriage are different ball games, it hints at an idea in the writing of the film.  gives.  Certainly Malli Modalaindi written and directed by TG Keerthi Kumar, breaks some of the clichés for Telugu cinema.

For starters, the story doesn’t judge the men and women who are separated.  Understands what they are going through – this could be due to dowry harassment, sexual harassment or something that is often overlooked, such as incompatibility.  There are also no characters in the story who give advice to women and warn that life becomes difficult after divorce.  Instead, it reflects a male point of view, showing that separation is not an easy ride for them.

Chef Vikram (Sumanth Kumar) grew up admiring the strength of his mother Sujata (Suhasini), an entrepreneur whose spice business grows manifold.  He naturally starts cooking and becomes a chef.  In fact the described case, the situation gradually emphasizes that it is not unthinkable for a teenage boy to spend time in the kitchen in the late 1990s.

We get a quick recap of how things turned sour between Vikram and Nisha (Varshini Soundararajan).  Instead of living with an unhappy marriage, they decide to move forward with mutual respect rather than avoid it in court.  However, the story soon turns to Vikram and Nisha opposite Kishore (Venela Kishore as a motivational speaker) and his wife.  Kishore can’t stop calling his wife a pig and she uses him as a punching bag.

Thoughts of starting life anew after divorce and themes of mental health and medicine (Manjula Ghattamaneni in a cameo as a therapist) find their way into the story.  The issues are addressed on a superficial level, but dealt with in a fairly sensitive manner.  Although these parts are sensibly written, the comic parts are generic.  Venela Kishore tries his best to spark laughter with lines written for him;  Some jokes come off while others sound lame.  Sample this: “They say love is like a walk in the park, but yours is like Jurassic Park.”  Or the vain Limerick “Why does the sun shine?  why are you so low?  What is happening?  Let’s go with flow”… Had these bits also been written with some passion, the film would have turned into a comedy-packed romance drama.

The romance between Vikram and divorce lawyer Pavitra (Naina Ganguly) could have had some spark.  The idea of a man falling in love with his wife’s divorce lawyer sounds better on paper than it appears on screen.  However, as the story progresses, it finds its own rhythm and addresses Vikram’s insecurities and how he grapples with the fear of history repeating itself.  Sumant is a perfect fit for the role, playing a character who feels that he has to measure up to the strong women around him.  There is also a comment about the age difference between the couple.  In how many mainstream films do we hear of statements that may be considered inappropriate for the typical image of the protagonist?  Sumanth plays the role of Vikram with the required subtlety and delivers the emotional parts effectively with less restraint.  Naina Ganguly and Varshini are enough, and Chinmayi’s voice lifts something heavy for Naina.

Among Anup Rubens’ music, Sid Sriram’s track ‘Alone Alone’ stands out.  Some of the comical dialogues also made me wonder whether Kirti Kumar or anyone in the film’s core team is a huge Hollywood fan, as there are many references to characters from Christopher Nolan, Interstellar and The Avengers franchise.

Malli Modalaindi heart is in the right place;  It’s a well thought out play that could have been done with a little more spark in the writing.
